Newcomer youth arrive in the United States through a variety of humanitarian pathways and bring a wide range of cultural, linguistic, and educational experiences.  Between 2014 and 2024, close to half of all individuals who arrived in the U.S. through humanitarian or resettlement pathways came from Ukraine and Afghanistan. The top ten countries of origin for arrivals between this period also included Haiti, Cuba, the Democratic Republic of the Congo, China, Myanmar (formerly known as Burma), Syria, Venezuela, and Iraq. Roughly half of all refugees and newcomers in the U.S. are children and youth under the age of 24. 

Common languages spoken by newcomer youth from these countries include Ukrainian, Russian, Dari, Pashto, Haitian Creole, French, Spanish, Arabic, Swahili, Chinese, Kinyarwanda, Kibembe, Burmese, Karen, Rohingya, and many others.
